PNGVR and its WW2 counterpart, NGVR were the only volunteer Australian Army Reserve units which were formed, served and disbanded overseas. They were at all times in the Australian Army Order of Battle, that is, they were front line units.

While the NGVR and PNGVR Ex-Members Association operated in an informal fashion from its beginning in 1983, it was in 1989 that a chance meeting between Harry and Joe Fisk at the Daisy Hill post office was the catalyst for organising a meeting at Harry’s home in 1989, attended by about 21 people with the view to formally establishing the Association with Harry as President. All who attended donated money to start the Association.
